How Does the Upgrade System Work?
There are two ways to use upgrade stones:
Upgrade existing attributes — use a stone to increase the current attribute level on your item.
Add new attributes — use a stone to add a new attribute to an item if it has free slots.

No, the upgrade process is 100% successful.
Can I remove upgrades from free slots?
Yes, use a Nexus 
to remove upgrades from free slots and restore the item to its default values. Craft materials are not returned. You can craft it or buy it from the store.
